Quote from Guest on August 29, 2025, 4:04 pm
<p style=”font-weight: 400″>Hibbard Spencer Bartlett & Co., 211 E. North Water Street, Chicago, IL.
<p style=”font-weight: 400″>Hibbard, Spencer, Bartlett & Co. was largely a distributor rather than a manufacturer. The company was a hardware wholesaler that sold a wide variety of goods, including tools like oilers, under its own brand. In the late 1800’s, it was not unusual for oilers to be made by an existing production company and then be stamped and sold under the name of a major hardware company. Oilers stamped with only the name “HIBBARD” are believed to have been manufactured in the 1880’s. Oilers with “HSB” and “OVB” (our very best) are believed to have been made in the early 1900s. We can assume that most of the oilers embossed with “Hibbard” or “HSB and OVB” were manufactured at least 100 years ago.
We have a variety of Hibbard and HSB oilers in our inventory. Thank you for your interest.
